Finally!

We finally got a snow day! After 8 or 9 last year, I was beginning to get a little desperate. Don't get me wrong--I am loving this warm weather this winter, but was craving a little snow.

No idea why schools canceled--there really wasn't much on the roads. But I'm not complaining!

We did our usual that we do EVERY snow day--snow ice cream for breakfast, lounge around in pj's all morning, eat mac and cheese for lunch, sledding in the afternoon with friends, come home and have hot chocolate and popcorn for a snack. This is our snow day. Every time. Love it!

One of these days I'm going to have to stop sledding with them. I'm going to break something. But for now, I love it as much as they do. Up and down the hill, over and over. Today a friend had a snowboard thing with a handle, and that was a lot of fun. Fell hard on my butt a few times, flipped over on the sled a few times, but a great time.

Saturday night tidbits

1. Last week was Courtwarming week at school, so lots of dress-up days. Apparently superhero day means girls wearing men's underwear with tights underneath. Even some of my fave kids did it. Hated to tell them how tacky it looked. :(

2. Conferences coming up this week, so lots of long hours. No school Friday will make up for it, though!

3. I've been dying for snow, and it looks like we'll finally get some on Monday. Will it be enough for a snow day? Who knows. I'm glad I don't have to listen to the kids at school getting all worked up in excitement.

4. My traveling partner in crime and I made a big boo-boo. We are going to Seattle in April, and made airline reservations over two or three weeks ago. Just realized on Thursday that we made the reservations for 7:30 PM instead of 7:30 AM. Oops. We've half- fixed the mistake; will have to wait a week or two to see if we can fix the other half of the mistake. Regardless, I am so excited about Seattle. Cannot wait!!

5. I'm considering going on a church mission trip to New York City in July. Doing lots of praying, and waiting to see if it will work out, and if it's God's will that I go on the trip.

Happy Saturday night!

Happy Monday!

It's Monday!

The Tigers won.

The Giants won.

I won our little Super Bowl betting system (full of random things like what color gatorade will be thrown on the winnng coach, will the injury cart be brought onto the field, who would call the first time-out, and which of our kids would cry first.) No money involved, but I can brag until next year.

Sad day

I knew this day was coming. And Sarah, do not feel bad or guilty. I knew it was coming.

I've blogged before about the girls' sleeping habits. When Bobby's at the fire station, 9 times out of 10 they fall asleep either in our bed, or in their "special spots" on our floor. They've done this for YEARS. Sometimes it's aggravating when I want to be alone, but as I've said before, I knew it would stop one day and I embraced it while I could. Macy and I butt heads all day long, and it's so nice to have quiet time with just her. She lets her guard down, and lets me in, which she won't do during the day.

Tonight we picked up Tess from basketball and took her home. She was FREAKING out about catching whatever sickness her sister Kate had. She was telling me in the car that she didn't want to sleep in the same room as Kate.

Me: Well, you could sleep with Jane.
Tess: No way!
Me: You could sleep on the couch.
Tess: No way!
Me: You could sleep with your mom, since Andy's at the station.
Tess: (big laugh) Yeah right. Why would I sleep with my mom?
Me: Sometimes the girls sleep with me. (I knew to tread carefully here)
Kaylin: We do!
Macy: in a quiet, defensive voice Yeah, like when I was 7 or when I was sick

I knew I had to quickly change the conversation, so I started rambling about who knows what, to save Macy from the embarrassment I knew she would be feeling

When we started getting ready for bed, I asked her if she was going to sleep with me or in her own bed. I received a very short, very curt reply "My own bed."

I went in to tuck her in, and gave her a light kiss on the cheek. "You are welcome to sleep with me anytime, and I won't tell anyone," I whispered before I left. She pretended not to hear me.

My baby girl is growing up.

For the record

I would like to state for the record that today is January 30. We wore t-shirts, the girls rode bikes outside after school for almost two hours, and Bobby grilled hamburgers on the grill. It was 65 degrees on January 30.

That is all.

SOC--Girl Scout Lock-in

#SOCsunday

Last night my good friend Amy took 8 Junior Girl Scouts to a lock-in with 1000 of our closest Girl Scout friends. It was insane. I'd heard from others about how organized it was, and it was crazy how smoothly everything went. I'm sure there were problems behind the scenes, but they hid them well. It was a well-oiled machine. You'd have to be if you had 1000 Girl Scouts (yes, you read that number correctly) overnight!

Here's the girls when we arrived at 8:30 pm, so ready to get started.

There were games galore in both gyms, tables with crafts set up in the cafeteria area, and a massive concession stand. Girls had a little green card with pictures of what they could eat and crafts to do, and then the pictures were crossed off. Games were unlimited amount of time.

Then came swimming...from 11-12. Let me tell you, these girls were crazy over the swimming.

The girls had to pass a swimming test in order to go in the deep end, which 5 did with ease. It was fun watching them try the rock wall, the slide, the diving board. There were at least 8 lifeguards in the pool area too.

After swimming, the girls went back to the crafts/games/food until 3. From 2-3 Amy and I had guard duty at one of the doors. It was incredibly boring, and I started getting tired at this point. (On a side note, my sister's "job" was to guard the hospitality room. How fair is that??)

At 3 they brought out popsiccles, shut down the crafts/games, and did Bingo, movies, dance/running around like mad people, and jump rope. Our girls were wearing down at this point. I don't think any of them had ever stayed up all night, and it showed about 5 am. They were walking zombies.

In a nutshell, it was an amazing experience for the girls. I'm thankful to be able to do these things with the girls--I've known all of them for 5 years, and many are like daughters to me. When I told others what I was doing, I heard lots of "I could never do that!" or "You are crazy!"

Yep. I am crazy. But fun.

And I'm sure I went over my 5 minutes. Shoot me. I've had 4 hours of sleep and my brain is mush.

This was my 5 minute Stream of Consciousness Sunday post. It’s five minutes of your time and a brain dump. Want to try it? Here are the rules…
  • Set a timer and write for 5 minutes.

  • Link up your post below.
  • Visit your fellow bloggers and show some love.

Hair cuts and other random details

It's been, again, a busy week. I know, I know, I keep saying that. Because it's true. This extra class is killing me, along with planning for my other ones. It should get easier in the next few weeks--hopefully.

All in all, while it was a busy week, it was a good week.

Kaylin has been growing her hair out for Locks of Love, and today we finally ventured to the hair salon to get it cut.  Here's the back of her hair before it was cut:

And here is the cutie patootie after her 11 inch hair cut.
She looks super cute with her hair short like this. I'm always amazed how cute it looks. She basically hadn't been combing her hair the last few weeks; just putting it in a ponytail. I'm excited for her to not look like a ragmuffin all the time.

Not much else to say right now...Macy's being a difficult 10-year-old much of the time. The hair stylist (a good friend of ours) said 4th and 5th grades were the worst. We are 1/2 way through 4th, so only 1 1/2 years to go! HA!

Two more basketball games tomorrow, then Macy and I (along with 1000 other Girl Scouts) are doing a lock-in at the community center. Our swimming time is 11-12. Should make for an interesting Sunday!
